3 Vital Factors You Can't Ignore Before Moving Abroad

Looking for a new home abroad?

Whether you’re considering citizenship or residency in a different country, it’s crucial to carefully assess the factors that will determine the quality of services available to you. Moving to a new country entails much more than just finding a place to live; it’s about creating a fulfilling and comfortable life for yourself and your loved ones.

Vital Factors Due to Moving Abroad

In this regard, there are three vital factors that you should consider before making a decision. By taking these factors into account, you can ensure that the services and amenities provided in your new location will meet your expectations and contribute to a high quality of life. So, let’s delve into these factors to help you make a well-informed choice for your future home.

  • Schools

The quality of education and the availability of suitable schools are essential considerations, especially if you have children or plan to have a family in the future. Research the education system of the prospective country, including public and private schools, curriculum standards, and extracurricular activities. Look into rankings, reviews, and accreditation of schools to gauge their performance. Additionally, consider the availability of international schools if you prefer an education system that aligns with your home country. Failing to research schools adequately can result in limited educational opportunities for your children, mismatched curriculum, or difficulties in adapting to a new learning environment.

  • Healthcare

Access to quality and affordability of healthcare is crucial for your well-being. Research the healthcare system of the country, including the availability of hospitals, clinics, and specialists. Evaluate the quality of medical facilities, the competence of healthcare professionals, and the availability of health insurance options. Additionally, consider specific healthcare needs you or your family may have, such as chronic conditions or specialized treatments. Inadequate research on healthcare services in a particular country region can lead to difficulties in accessing necessary medical care, limited treatment options, or inadequate insurance coverage, putting your health and that of your loved ones at risk.

One of my friends, David, a young professional from Germany, relocated to Canada for a new job opportunity. Excited about the cultural immersion and career growth, he dedicated his time to preparing for the transition, focusing on finding an apartment, obtaining the necessary work permits, and learning about the local cities and geography. However, in the midst of all the preparations, he overlooked researching the healthcare system in Canada.

Several months into his relocation, David experienced severe chest pain and difficulty breathing. Concerned and unsure of where to go, he rushed to the nearest hospital hoping to solve this problem within the day. Trying to navigate the unfamiliar healthcare landscape, he quickly realized that the local healthcare system has its own unique characteristics and challenges. From the requirement of having health insurance coverage to the emphasis on primary care physicians as gatekeepers to specialized treatments.

Of course, I wish emergencies didn’t happen to you, but you should always be prepared for them when you`re abroad.

  • Professional Services

Before relocating, consider the availability and quality of professional services you may require. Research the reputation of legal professionals, the stability and accessibility of financial institutions, employment opportunities, and the business support available. Without proper research, you may face challenges in understanding local laws, managing your finances, finding suitable employment, or pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors.

These are just a few of the factors to consider when relocating to a new country. By doing your research and taking these factors into account, you can increase your chances of finding a place where you’ll be happy and fulfilled.
