Moving to Mexico from UK can make traveling around the world an even more enriching experience, introducing a diverse range of people, cultures, and lifestyles.

One of the joys of visiting Mexico is the chance to meet people from all over the world who have come to settle in this ancient land. In my previous article, I delved into the most common reasons why people relocate in the modern age, and it turned out that love is one of the common reasons.

This was precisely the case for a young couple I had the pleasure to meet, who have a captivating story of how they met and ended up in Mexico.

Amilia Greene is a lovely 25-year-old with a radiant smile, who caught my attention when we were both queuing up at the immigration office.

Despite having an American accent, it turned out that Amilia was a British citizen who had come to renew her residency and obtain a work permit to kick-start her career in Mexico.

As we chatted, I couldn`t help but be intrigued by her love story. Several years ago, she met Miguel, a Mexican guy from the Chiapas state, while traveling on a bus in Tanzania, Africa.

Love and affection sparked immediately, and they decided to continue traveling together even after the tour ended. Miguel eventually moved to the UK to be with Amilia, who was still studying in college at the time, and they began to build their life together there.

While moving to Mexico from UK, their life in the UK was far from easy. Miguel’s engineering degree and fluent English were no match for the harsh reality of a British job market that offered no opportunities for him without obtaining a local license. Despite his best efforts, he had to settle for a job as a waiter in a local restaurant to pay the bills.

The cost of living in the UK continued to rise and the housing crisis was only getting worse. The young people were feeling anything but happy, and the constantly rainy weather only added to their misery.

Then, as if things couldn’t get any worse, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. The UK went into lockdown, and the couple found themselves trapped in a small rented apartment. Miguel lost his job, and Amilia was forced to shift to online learning.

Desperate for a change, the couple made a bold decision to leave the UK and head to Mexico, where the COVID measures were more relaxed.

They ended up settling in a small town in Chiapas. The cost of living here is much lower than in the UK, and they were able to find a comfortable apartment at a fraction of the cost they would have paid back in England.

They were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief and start building the life they had always dreamed of. Miguel quickly found professional work and Amilia mastered Spanish in no time, immersing herself in the local culture and making new friends.

These days, Amilia is happily adapting to her new life in Mexico, embracing the new culture, and preparing for her upcoming wedding to Miguel. She has also started looking for work in the environmental field, which is her passion. Her family back in the UK is happy for her. Her mother and two sisters are excited to visit Mexico in August to participate in the wedding and explore the country.

“Life has become more difficult and expensive in the UK now and my family is happy for me to find a new family, a caring husband, and a real place under the sun” mentioned Amilia with a smile.

Moving to a new country for love can be an exciting and daunting experience, and it is not without its challenges. Leaving behind family, friends, and familiar surroundings can be tough, and adapting to a new culture and way of life can be even harder.

There is also the financial and practical aspect to consider, including finding a place to live, securing employment, and navigating immigration and visa processes.

Moving for love is not for everyone, and it requires a lot of sacrifice and compromise. It’s also essential to have a support system in place, whether it’s through friends, family, a community of expats, or an international lifestyle consultant.

Amilia and Miguel’s story About Moving to Mexico From UK

Amilia and Miguel’s story is a testament to the power of love and the unexpected paths that life can take. Despite the challenges they faced along the way, they persevered and found a new home in Mexico.

Their story also highlights the importance of being open to adapting to new environments and cultures, as well as the rewards that come with stepping outside one’s comfort zone.

As I heard about Amilia and Miguel’s love story and their journey to Mexico, I couldn’t help but think about another couple I had met who had also made the move to Mexico though for other reasons.

In a previous article, I shared the story of Lea and Sean, who left their normal lives in the US to find a more pleasant lifestyle in Mexico. While their reasons for moving were different, both couples found Mexico to be a welcoming and affordable place to call home.

It’s always fascinating to hear about the experiences of those who have made the leap to a new country and the challenges they face along the way. If you haven’t read their story yet, you can find it here.

In conclusion, meeting people like Amilia and Miguel reminds us that there is a whole world out there waiting to be explored, and moving to a new country can be a life-changing experience.

While it’s not always easy, it can be a fulfilling and rewarding journey if done with the right mindset and preparation.
